Caregiver Patient Folder
This type of Patient Folder should be created for customers that want to be a Caregiver for a patient of the pharmacy, but do not want to become a patient themselves (e.g., do not want their prescriptions processed at this pharmacy).
Note: The Caregiver Status is not available in British Columbia, due to regulatory requirements by PharmaNet. If a customer who is not already a patient at your pharmacy wants to become a Caregiver, you must create a new Patient Folder. For more information, see Creating a New Patient Folder - British Columbia.
A Caregiver Patient Folder is for patients who are not part of your pharmacy that have been authorized as Caregivers to a patient in your pharmacy. These types of Patient Folder's require minimal information to create, needing only demographic information and communication preferences, and has limited prescription functionality.
If there is already an existing Patient Folder for the Caregiver at your pharmacy, a new Caregiver Patient Folder does not need to be created. The existing Patient Folder can be used.
When a Caregiver Patient Folder is created, only the following tabs can be accessed:
-
Main tab
-
History tab
-
Programs tab
-
Attachments tab
-
Notes tab
When a Patient Folder is set to Caregiver, no prescriptions-related activities can be performed on their profile. This includes:
-
Filling prescriptions
-
Adding DURs
-
Processing flu shots
-
Performing Patient-Focused Services (PFS)

The Programs tab allows you to link a Caregiver's BeWell account to their Patient Folder in Nexxsys. For a Caregiver to receive notifications and manage a Person in Care's prescriptions through the BeWell app:
-
They must be registered with the BeWell app.
- Their BeWell account must account linked to their Patient Folder. For more information, see Linking a BeWell Account to Nexxsys.
Caregiver Communication Preferences
Caregivers receive notifications regarding a Person in Care's prescriptions through Rexall Reminders or through the BeWell app, depending on their own preferences.
Rexall Reminders
Caregivers can receive Rexall Reminders regarding a Person in Care's prescriptions based on the Rexall Reminders preferences set in the Caregiver's Patient Folder.
Example: Adam Williams is the Caregiver for Samantha Johnson. He has consented to receiving Rexall Reminders and has selected email as his preferred communication method. Regardless of what is set on Samantha Johnson's Patient Folder, Adam Williams will receive Rexall Reminders for Samantha Johnson through his email.
BeWell App
Caregivers can manage prescriptions and receive notifications regarding a Person in Care through the BeWell app if:
-
Their BeWell account is linked to their Nexxsys Patient Folder.
-
They have a relationship established through Nexxsys with the Person in Care.
Note: A Person in Care does not require a BeWell account for the Caregiver to manage prescriptions and receive notifications for the Person in Care. If the Person in Care does have a BeWell account, it does not need to be linked to their Nexxsys Patient Folder for the Caregiver to manage and receive notifications.
